Visitors to Ascarate Park in South-Central El Paso found large numbers of dead fish floating in a lake on Friday morning. People at the lake said hundreds of fish were visible above the waterline behind the pond area.

Isaac Arenas, who has lived in El Paso for 10 years and fishes at the park, said fishing has also changed. He said he usually catches three or four fish an hour, but had caught only one since morning. He said the change started after a recent storm.

El Paso city crews cleaned up most of the dead fish after they were found. Felipe Perez said he believed the cleanup should have happened sooner. County officials said they were working on a request for information about the fish. A few dead fish were still visible near weedy areas along the lake's edge, near the golf course.
