The DFW Curling Club in Irving is trying to recover an estimated $20,000 in stolen tools and equipment. The break-in happened at its new 30,000-square-foot facility on the same night as its grand opening celebration on Sunday, the club said.
Surveillance cameras captured an intruder on the building's porch about 30 minutes after members locked up. Club President Brigitte Minucci said a member found signs of the break-in on Monday morning, including scattered food, papers and gloves, and doors left open. Footage showed a man moving through the building for several hours while wearing merchandise from the club's pro shop. Another person later joined him.
Members found that tools kept in a back ice shed were missing, along with an iPad, speakers and a computer. Minucci estimated the losses at $20,000, with most of that amount involving power tools owned by members who had spent months preparing the facility. Minucci also said a club trophy, the USA National Curling trophy, was broken during the break-in.
