On Oct. 24, 2026, a Liberty County Sheriff's Office deputy patrolling FM 1409 tried to stop a vehicle for equipment violations. The driver fled, and the deputy followed for a short pursuit before the vehicle stopped in a field near the road.
The driver, identified as Jason Edward Iorns, 44, was taken into custody after he tried to climb out of the vehicle. Iorns admitted he fled because he had an active parole warrant. He was booked into the Liberty County Jail.
All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
