Two helicopters collided midair on Thursday, Oct. 29, near an airport southwest of Portland, Oregon, and crashed into a farm field, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office. Officials said all three people aboard the two aircraft were killed.
One helicopter was on a test run with an experienced pilot, Tyler Sturdevant, 38. He had worked for more than 20 years at Precision, a helicopter charter and maintenance company. The company said on social media that he was remembered for his passion for flying and his dedication to helping other pilots succeed. The other helicopter was carrying a flight instructor, Maddie Aasbo, who is from Texas and was 22, and a 31-year-old student pilot from the United Kingdom. The student's identity has not been released.
The National Transportation Safety Board said a team was on its way to examine the wreckage. The agency is investigating the crash. Law enforcement photos showed one red helicopter crumpled in a field and one green helicopter resting upside down.
