Lufkin police and local public safety agencies held an Active Attacker Drill at Lockheed Martin on Oct. 23, according to the Lufkin Police Department. Lt. Brad Davis and the department's Special Services team worked with Lockheed Martin and other agencies to build the scenario, which required a coordinated response among all agencies involved.
The exercise covered the full response, from the initial police dispatch through fire and rescue, emergency medical services and the transport of simulated patients to a hospital. Lufkin Police Chief Travis Brazil said the drill was meant to evaluate how the entire public safety system works together, not how individual agencies perform alone. He said the goal was to find weaknesses before a real emergency.
Officials brought in independent assessors from the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) program to observe and critique the drill. Brazil said the assessors called the training an overall success. He said the department will keep using the lessons learned to improve preparedness.
