As Americans prepare for the November midterm elections, Bishop Michael Sis of the Catholic Diocese of San Angelo spoke about the role faith plays in everyday decisions, including voting. He said religious freedom includes more than worship. "Living in a country where there is freedom of religion includes freedom of worship according to our own conscience, but it also includes allowing our faith to impact our life in the world," Sis said.

Sis said faith should help shape a person's conscience. He said people of any religion in the United States should use their conscience to decide what is best for their country, city and state. "My faith is not just something that I exercise at home or within the walls of my church building," he said. He also encouraged people to consider how their decisions affect others and to act in ways that promote the common good.

The discussion comes amid attention on Pope Leo XIV and questions about the role of religious leaders in American elections. Sis said the conversation goes beyond politics.
