The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) has awarded more than $3.5 million in Pathway Fund grants to 30 organizations. The money will help prevent or fix heirs' property problems, such as resolving title disputes or setting up a will. Heirs' property is land or a home passed down without a will or clear legal documentation of ownership.
Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas, said the program is about keeping family assets secure and communities strong. The grants are awarded through 11 participating FHLB Dallas members. The bank said they are expected to help clear an estimated 2,684 titles, prepare wills or deeds for nearly 5,000 people, and provide training and education to nearly 26,000 people.
Texas received $1,025,000 of the total. Louisiana received $1,625,000, Mississippi received $732,500, and Arkansas received $175,000. No grants were awarded in New Mexico this year. Organizations could receive up to $150,000 for remediation and up to $25,000 for education and will preparation. FHLB Dallas said it has distributed more than $10.8 million through the Pathway Fund since the program began.
