Reed Resale, a store in downtown Abilene, sells secondhand women's clothing through a mix of consignment and an online boutique, owner Allie Reed said. Clients bring in items to sell. The store photographs and posts them online, then splits the proceeds with the client.
Reed said the business started as a side project in her garage in April. After that space filled up, she connected with Support Small Business of Abilene and found a downtown storefront. The idea came when her mother asked her to sell some clothes on Facebook Marketplace, Reed said.
Reed said the store offers shoppers distinctive pieces at lower prices and helps clients get more use from clothes they already own. The online group that sells the clothing has nearly 6,000 members, according to Reed. She said the store aims for a quick turnaround so clients get paid as soon as possible.
Reed has worked in the boutique business for 12 years, according to the store. She said her favorite part has been creating jobs for local women.
