Students from Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Catholic School returned to Rose Lawn Cemetery for a day of service, the third year in a row the school has done so. The 55 ninth- and tenth-grade students honored people who have died and prepared for Veterans Day.
Students placed American flags at the graves of about 250 veterans buried at the cemetery. They also raked and gathered pine mulch for reuse, cleared several flower beds and prepared landscaping areas for spring. Students also offered prayers for the dead throughout the visit.
Students attended a Catholic Mass and burial ceremony for 37 unborn babies, who were laid to rest in the CHRISTUS Mother Frances columbariums at Rose Lawn. The names of the babies were read aloud, and students took part in laying each one to rest.
