Police are still searching for suspects in three shootings in Deep Ellum on Halloween night, according to FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth. Four people were shot and killed: Unique Benjamin, 28, Kaniesa Scott, 21, Anthony McCleary, 25, and Isaiah Boling, 20.
Oshshanae Rose, Benjamin's best friend for about a decade, said she was taking an Uber to Deep Ellum to meet Benjamin that night. When she arrived, she said she saw people running and screaming, cars backing up, and police with their lights on. Rose said she had moved to Chicago and was back in town for Halloween. "She was my world," Rose said. "We did everything together."
Untruan Train Grant is one of several Deep Ellum community members working on ways to reduce violence. Grant said he wants people to know the district is not a breeding ground for crime. He said teens who cannot get into bars often go to Deep Ellum, and his street team, Learn With Train, aims to steer them away from the area.
