Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed Todd Wetsel of Amarillo to the Texas Veterans Commission. His term runs through Dec. 31, 2031. Wetsel is senior vice president and trust investment officer with FirstBank Southwest. According to a news release from the bank, he served in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout with the 1st Cavalry Division, including two deployments to Iraq.

The commission helps veterans, their dependents and survivors receive benefits. It also trains and certifies county officers who provide services to them. In the release, Wetsel said he was grateful to Abbott for the chance to keep serving the country and Texas veterans. He said veterans should have access to the benefits, services and opportunities they earned through military service.

Wetsel is vice president of the board for the Texas Panhandle War Memorial. He chairs the Catalyst Committee with the Amarillo Area Foundation and is a member of the Amarillo Area Estate Planning Council. FirstBank Southwest President and CEO Andy Marshall said the appointment reflects Wetsel's military service, professional career and community leadership. Marshall is also a veteran.
