Texans affected by July's floods can now apply for federal disaster assistance, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Friday. The federal government approved the state's appeal.
The aid is available to eligible residents in 20 counties, including Bexar County. Survivors can apply at disasterassistance.gov.
Liz Ayala, a flood survivor and member of Rebuild, said the news brings relief to her family and community. She said individual assistance is meant to help people in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, and that people who lost everything still face major hurdles. Ayala said long-term recovery funding is needed. She said survivors of the 2025 floods are still waiting on Congress to pass funding to help them rebuild.
