Dilley led 28-7 at halftime and held Freer to less than 200 yards of offense in a 42-15 win last Friday at Gosch Field. The victory gave the Wolves the District 16-2A, Division I title, their first league championship since 2016. Dilley later lost to Boling in the Area round of the playoffs in Kenedy. The Bulldogs are ranked 11th in the state, according to the story.
Head coach and athletic director David Silva said the team has improved each week and is peaking at the right time. He said it felt great to bring the district championship back after a long drought. Trevino rushed for 170 yards on 15 carries and scored twice. Caleb Alejandro ran for three touchdowns and 53 yards on seven carries. Sambrano threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Payton Kinsey.
Dilley finished with 362 total yards and 334 rushing yards. The Wolves converted five of six third downs. Freer finished with 178 total yards. Neither team turned the ball over, despite a wet field from daytime showers. Gunner McClain had 16 total tackles, and Nathaniel Torres had 13.
