The Port Arthur Public Library is inviting cultural groups to take part in Christmas Around the World, a revived tradition. Groups can set up displays in the library's Lucy Stiefel Gallery that may include decorated trees, crafts, Nativity scenes, recipes and music. The library said live Christmas trees will be provided. The Port Arthur Convention & Visitors Bureau is supporting the event.

An opening reception is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. Displays will be open to the public from Dec. 5 to Jan. 8. Groups can set up from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, and dismantling is set for Jan. 9 to Jan. 15. The library asks groups to confirm by Nov. 6 so it can have the right number of trees ready.

Participants and visitors are also invited to donate canned food and gently worn clothing to the United Board of Missions and the Southeast Texas Food Bank. Collection boxes will be out during the month. Requested items include canned beans, meat and fruit, dry beans, boxed foods, and rice and/or beans. Groups interested in participating can contact Library Director Steven Williams at 409-985-8838 or swilliams@paplibrary.org.
