Latino voters moved sharply to the left in the midterm elections, according to The Associated Press. The shift helped Democrats win in Texas and in battleground House races across the country. The AP reported that Democrats also retook control of the House and the Senate.

In Texas, every county voted more Democratic than it did two years ago, the AP said. Counties with larger Hispanic populations generally showed bigger shifts. Democrats had attributed their gains to voter concerns about rising prices and government corruption, the AP reported.

According to The AP Voter Poll, a survey of more than 100,000 midterm voters, about one-third of Hispanic voters backed the Republican in their local U.S. House race. Roughly 4 in 10 voted for Trump two years ago, the poll found. Democratic Rep. Gabe Vasquez of New Mexico and Johnny Garcia, a sheriff's deputy who won a newly created House district in the San Antonio area, were among the candidates quoted.
