The YMCA of Midland said it received two grants from the James A. "Buddy" Davidson Foundation. One is $1 million for the A Better Place to Connect – Downtown Aquatic & Social Expansion Project. The other is $100,000 to fully cover scholarships for YMCA Summer Camp and Child Care programs.
The $1 million gift will support the project's recreational slide and related aquatic amenities, the YMCA said. The project will add a zero-entry indoor pool, lap lanes, a whirlpool, upgraded wet areas, sauna and steam room amenities, and expanded outdoor gathering spaces.
According to a news release, the Foundation has long focused its giving on furnishings, fixtures and equipment that enhance the experience of children and families. The release said the investment will help future Midland youth enjoy aquatic experiences for years to come.
