Texas A&M University will hold its Silver Taps ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 10:30 p.m. at Academic Plaza. The university said the ceremony honors one current student who died recently. The name was not included in the announcement.

Under the tradition, the campus will be darkened at 10:20 p.m. Students, family and friends will gather in the plaza in front of the Academic Building in silence. At 10:30 p.m., an honor guard from the Ross Volunteer Company will march to the plaza and fire three rifle volleys.

People who want to send condolences to the family can email silvertaps@tamutraditions.net or leave a letter in one of four memorial boxes. The boxes are located in Academic Plaza, the Memorial Student Center 12th Man Hall, on the Quad and in front of the West Campus Dining Facility. The university asked students living on campus to cover their windows, keep noise to a minimum and walk to and from the ceremony without talking. Silver Taps is held on the first Tuesday of each month from September through April, when needed after a student's death.
