Texas Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa said she has asked state officials not to take action on public land near Boca Chica Beach during the transition to her administration. She made the announcement Thursday at her first news conference since defeating Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in Tuesday's election.

The issue involves possible transfer of state-owned land near SpaceX's Starbase operations in Cameron County. The Texas Tribune reported that a draft agenda for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission included a discussion of the possible disposition of about 1,300 acres of public land. The item was later removed from the final agenda.

Hinojosa said she contacted the executive director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department earlier Thursday. She said she confirmed the matter was not on Thursday's agenda and asked that no action be taken during the transition. She did not say whether the department agreed to the request or what her administration might do once she takes office.

Hinojosa is scheduled to be sworn in on Jan. 19, 2027.
