The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has started accepting applications for its 70th Law Enforcement Cadet Class. The application period closes Dec. 31, 2026. The class is open to people interested in becoming a Texas Game Warden or a Texas State Park Police Officer.

Game wardens have enforced hunting, fishing and boating rules since 1895, according to the department. They also teach hunter and boater education courses and assist in search, rescue and recovery operations during emergencies and natural disasters. State park police officers have served in state parks for more than 50 years, protecting visitors and responding to emergencies, the department said.

Col. Ron VanderRoest, TPWD Law Enforcement Director, said a career with the agency offers varied work environments and specialized skills. The Texas Legislature has authorized an expanded enforcement program that includes a 50-hour workweek for game wardens and paid overtime for state park police officers, the department said.
