Communities In Schools of San Antonio recognized the Emerging Leaders Academy of the Texas Aggregates & Concrete Association (TACA) for a community service project. The recognition took place Oct. 22 at Margil Elementary School in San Antonio, according to the announcement.
During TACA's 2026 Annual Meeting, academy members set out to assemble 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies. The group exceeded that goal by 100 percent and prepared 2,000 backpacks for students across Texas, the group said.
The backpacks were donated to three nonprofit organizations. Communities In Schools received 1,250 backpacks for communities in San Antonio, Austin and Midland. Be A Resource received 500 for students in the Houston area. Children's Charities received 250 for students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The academy is designed to develop future leaders in the aggregates, concrete and cement industries in Texas. It offers professional development, industry education, networking and leadership experience.
