Three films received top honors at the inaugural Reel Texas StoryFest awards, the organizers said in an announcement from Austin.
The Best Short Film Award went to Ketchup on Tamales. The film follows a young boy who asks for ketchup at a Mexican family gathering, leading to a dispute with his uncles, who insist tamales belong with hot sauce.
The Best Film Non-Fiction Documentary Award went to The Sons of Hercules: Three Decades of Spittin' Fire. Filmmaker Geno Garza documents the San Antonio garage-rock band, which has performed for more than three decades.
The Best Film Fiction Award went to The Gift, a film about human trafficking. Filmmakers are invited to enter the 2027 competition.
