Texas Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa, a Democrat, will hold her first press conference since defeating Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who was seeking a fourth term. The event is set for 2 p.m. CST in Austin. Hinojosa has already spoken with Abbott about the transition, which will run for two months before she is sworn in in January.

Hinojosa is the state's first Democratic governor since Ann Richards in 1995 and its first Hispanic governor. Democrats also won every statewide office on Tuesday. Rep. James Talarico defeated Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate race. Abbott's campaign spent tens of millions of dollars more than Hinojosa's.

The AP Voter Poll shows a substantial shift of Hispanic voters away from Republicans compared with Donald Trump's victory two years ago. Nationally, about one-third of Hispanics said they backed the Republican in their local U.S. House race, while roughly 4 in 10 voted for Trump two years ago. Hinojosa has said she would fire Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath and called for a moratorium and new rules on data centers. Texas has more than 500 data centers, the second-most of any state, according to NBC News.
