Midland police officers were called at about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday to the area of South Marshall Street for a possible explosive ordnance. Bomb squad personnel from the Midland Police Department also went to the scene.
Police said residents were notified and evacuated to a safe distance. Bomb technicians used X-ray equipment to examine the item, which appeared to be a 60-millimeter mortar.
Police said the device was a training device and was not equipped with an explosive charge.
