The family of a 16-year-old Clear Lake student is raising money for his medical bills after he was hit by a school bus and suffered serious injuries. Houston police received a call about the crash at Clear Lake High School on Oct. 16, around 2:50 p.m. Police said the student was riding a bicycle as he left campus when the bus hit him. No charges were filed immediately. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

According to an online fundraiser, the GoFundMe had raised more than $16,000 for his medical expenses as he waits in the ICU for back surgery. His family said his liver was also bleeding as a result of the crash.

Clear Creek ISD said it has changed the flow of bus traffic during dismissal. A school resource officer will direct traffic on campus, and a security monitor will oversee pedestrian and bicycle crossings. The district said it is in contact with the family and hopes for a full recovery. It said federal privacy laws prevent it from sharing details about the student's medical condition. The Houston Police Department's investigation is ongoing.
