The Battleship Texas Foundation held its annual golf tournament on Oct. 5. The event brought together supporters, sponsors and community members for competition and fundraising. Proceeds will support ongoing efforts to maintain the battleship, which the story describes as the nation's last surviving dreadnought battleship.
Navigator Oil & Minerals was the tournament's title sponsor. Wright Barger Close & Guzman sponsored hospitality services. The foundation said the tournament is one of its fundraising efforts aimed at keeping the ship preserved for future generations.
The Battleship Texas is docked in Galveston, where it is undergoing a $75 million restoration and museum overhaul at Gulf Copper on Pelican Island. The Port of Galveston's governing board approved an operating agreement in July of last year to permanently berth the ship at Pier 15. The battleship was commissioned in 1914 and served in both world wars.
