A driver died early Sunday after a two-vehicle crash at Elam Road and South Buckner Boulevard in Southeast Dallas, police said. Officers were called to the intersection at 1:28 a.m.

Investigators determined that a Ford SUV traveling west on Elam Road at a high rate of speed ran a red light and struck a Chevrolet Camaro traveling south on South Buckner Boulevard. Police said the impact pushed the Camaro off the road and into a fence around a construction site. The Camaro's lone occupant, an adult male, suffered critical injuries and died after paramedics took him to a local hospital.

Police said the SUV driver left the scene on foot before officers arrived. The Dallas Police Department Vehicular Crimes Unit closed the intersection for several hours to collect evidence and review surveillance footage. The victim has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
