The U.S. Supreme Court declined on Tuesday to take up a Texas-led lawsuit that challenged delays in deportation cases. Immigration judges are still barred from pausing deportation proceedings, even when an immigrant qualifies for legal status.

At issue is a federal rule that the Biden administration revived in 2024. The rule allowed immigration judges to postpone deportation proceedings for immigrants who qualify for legal status, including those married to a U.S. citizen and some people with visas for crime victims.
