Harris County has passed 1 million early votes, according to the Harris County Clerk's Office. The office told KPRC 2 at 4:30 p.m. Friday that the total had reached 1,000,447.

Steven David, who analyzes voter turnout data, said participation is well ahead of the same point in the 2022 midterm and closer to the pace of the 2024 presidential election. He said early voting saw a rush at both the beginning and the end of the period. David described the turnout as unusually active for a midterm.

David said the number of voters does not show which candidates they chose. He said estimates based on voting history, including primary participation, require assumptions about voters' choices. The story said a large early vote could affect how quickly some races become clear on election night.
