FEMA is supporting state and local recovery efforts for Texans in 20 counties who sustained damage from severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding from July 12 to Aug. 14, 2026. Financial assistance is available to eligible homeowners and renters in Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Crockett, Dimmit, Frio, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Medina, Real, Schleicher, Sutton, Uvalde, Val Verde and Zavala counties.
FEMA said it may help with serious needs, displacement, basic home repairs, personal property loss and other disaster-caused needs. People with losses should first file claims with their insurance providers, then apply for assistance. FEMA said it cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance, but if a policy does not cover all damage costs, a person may be eligible for federal aid.
Residents can apply for Individual Assistance under major disaster declaration DR-4935-TX online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA App, or by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. CT, Monday through Sunday. Help is available in most languages. Relay service users should give FEMA their number for that service. Applicants should have their insurance policy number or agent and company name, a current phone number and their address ready.
