A Harris County grand jury indicted a federal immigration agent on Friday. District Attorney Sean Teare said his office reviewed video showing the agent's unmarked vehicle striking Miguel Parra-Hernandez, 48, during an Oct. 10 vehicle pursuit in Houston.

Teare said agent Mario Alberto Morales faces a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and that the weapon was the agent's vehicle. Teare said the evidence is as clear as any he has prosecuted or investigated. Surveillance footage from a nearby business shows two men running from a white pickup truck while a black SUV followed one of them. Teare's office also shared body camera footage from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which showed Morales getting out of his vehicle after the pedestrian's legs were run over.

ICE said agents were searching for a man named Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, who had a deportation order, and believed he was in the same truck as Parra-Hernandez. Mendoza-Cervantes's daughter later told the New York Times that her father died nearly a decade ago.
