A Harris County grand jury on Friday indicted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer Mario Alberto Morales on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, prosecutors said.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office said Morales was driving an unmarked SUV on Oct. 10 when it struck and ran over Miguel Parra Hernandez, 48, who was running away during a pursuit through a parking lot. Prosecutors said video contradicts ICE's account. ICE has said Parra Hernandez ran in front of the car and has denied that the officer intentionally struck him.
District Attorney Sean Teare said Parra Hernandez broke his leg and remains in federal custody at a rehabilitation facility.
