According to the agenda for the county's 10 a.m. meeting on Oct. 26, commissioners will consider an award for pre-funding and post-funding administration services for FEMA public assistance. Officials said four companies submitted bids for the work. Interim county judge Jerry told the Leader-News that as of Oct. 22, the county had not heard back from FEMA or set a date for a recovery scoping meeting. The county and the city of Uvalde submitted their public assistance application by an Oct. 1 deadline.
The Oct. 26 meeting will also be the first time officials meet with the public since FEMA denied individual assistance statewide. As of Oct. 22, Gov. Greg Abbott's office and the Texas Division of Emergency Management were reviewing how to appeal, within the 30 days the federal agency gave.
Commissioners will also revisit a Oct. 13 item on staff stipends for the county clerk's office. The court approved $25,431, which was $39,569 less than the $65,000 in unspent departmental funds that county clerk Donna M. Williams had requested. The agenda says an explanation will be given. Bates told the Leader-News that he placed the item on the agenda after members of the court expressed a desire to discuss how the item was voted on.
The court will also consider an agreement allowing Sabinal Independent School District to use the Uvalde County Fairplex as an off-campus evacuation site, and approval of a 2027 county holiday schedule.
