Lufkin Creative will host Heritage Festival: Bites & Beats from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Cotton Square Park in downtown Lufkin. The organization said the event celebrates food, art, music, traditions, stories and cultures in Lufkin and East Texas. Visitors can see artists and makers, food vendors, local businesses, cultural activities and live entertainment.
A Texas Cultural District Proclamation Celebration is set for 2 p.m. It will recognize Lufkin's designation as a Texas Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts. Gary Gibbs, Ph.D., executive director of the commission, will attend as a special guest. Lufkin Creative said the designation recognizes existing creative activity and is meant to support local artists, cultural tourism and collaboration.
Listed vendors include La Cultura Taqueria, Reed's Fish & More and Bizzy Bees Bakery. Families can visit a kids' area sponsored by HiJinx. Confirmed entertainment includes Slack Elementary dancers, Ketzaly dancers, Coushatta Indians and a DJ. A full performance schedule will be announced once it is finalized, and Lufkin Creative said more details will be posted on its website and social media.
