The city of Fort Worth has chosen the Wedgwood East neighborhood as its 2027 Neighborhood Improvement Program recipient. The city announced the choice Tuesday during a city council work session. The $4.3 million investment will be spent over three years, according to the city.

The city said Wedgwood East has more than 1,300 households. Its median income is $65,625, compared with the city median of $82,503. The neighborhood's poverty rate is 18%, compared with a city average of 13%. Neighborhoods are chosen using a scoring system that looks at safety, financial hardship and neighborhood condition.

Residents will have a say in what projects are carried out. The city's projects often include streetlight and street upgrades, public safety cameras and cleanup of illegal dumping. Shana Hazzard, treasurer of the Wedgwood East Neighborhood Association, said the general feeling is excitement and that the investment is necessary. Council member Elizabeth Beck, whose district includes the neighborhood, said it is highly engaged.
