Galveston city officials confirmed that City Council Member Jason Hardcastle was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and a charge of resisting arrest, search or transportation. His bond was set at $2,500 in total.
The arrest followed an accident reported at about 8:15 p.m. Friday on Seawall Boulevard near 69th Street. No injuries were reported at the scene. According to authorities, an officer at the scene allegedly noticed signs of possible intoxication involving Hardcastle, who was then arrested on suspicion of DWI.
Authorities allege that Hardcastle refused to give a breath sample, so officers obtained a search warrant for a blood specimen. Authorities say Hardcastle resisted their efforts while the collection was being performed at the hospital. No other details were available at this time.
