Visitors to Ascarate Park in South-Central El Paso found hundreds of dead fish floating in a lake on Friday morning. Visitors said the sight was unusual. Abigail Trajeda, a frequent visitor, said, "It's not a good sign."

Isaac Arenas, who has lived in El Paso for 10 years, said he had never seen anything like it. He said the fish were affecting his fishing. He said he had not caught a bass since he started fishing around 9 a.m., adding, "I see them, but they're not feeding yet."

El Paso city crews cleaned up most of the dead fish after they were found, and a few remained near the golf course next to the park. Felipe Perez said the cleanup should have happened sooner. County officials said they were working on a request for information about the fish.
