Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters said Texas can help Republicans elect Attorney General Ken Paxton, win more U.S. House seats and advance President Donald Trump's agenda. He spoke in an interview with Dallas Express CEO Chris Putnam. Gruters said the state's campaign effort has included six months of staffing, grassroots voter outreach and election integrity work. He credited the state's congressional redistricting with giving Republicans more chances to win seats.
Gruters criticized Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico, saying Democrats present themselves as moderates while pursuing a left-wing agenda. Libertarian Ted Brown is also on the state's certified Senate ballot. Gruters said supporting the Republican ticket means "voting for the American dream." He called Trump the party's "secret weapon" and praised his travel to support Republican candidates. He said the RNC is focusing on rural and western parts of Texas, while saying "every single area is important."
Gruters said the RNC held its midterm convention in Dallas to drive turnout in Texas. The September 9-10 event was held at American Airlines Center. He urged voters to cast ballots early, make a voting plan and encourage others to take part. Texas' early voting period ends Friday, October 30. Election Day is November 3, according to the Texas secretary of state.
