Keep Texarkana Beautiful and the Texarkana Museums System are partnering with local landscape architect Bryan Callaway to revitalize the courtyard at the Museum of Regional History in Texarkana, Texas. The project is expected to take about two weeks, weather permitting.
The work includes improvements to the existing landscaping, irrigation system and retaining walls. New plantings will include native and pollinator-friendly plants, along with educational signs that identify plant species. Brooke Stone, city liaison for Keep Texarkana Beautiful, said the space is meant to serve as an educational tool for residents of all ages.
Museum Director Ana Willis said the courtyard should reflect the community's pride. Additional planned enhancements include a future water feature, improved exterior lighting for the historic building and courtyard, and a new combination trash and recycling receptacle. The project is funded by community development funds through the city of Texarkana, Texas, and a grant from the Arkansas Community Foundation.
