Origo Works, a local design-build firm, led two multimillion-dollar redevelopment efforts in Brownsville. The projects cover Palm Village Shopping Center at 1400 Palm Blvd. and Sabal Market Center, formerly North Park Plaza, at 800 Frontage Rd 77/83.

Work on Palm Village was completed about a year ago, according to Origo Director of Development Ramiro Gonzalez. The project included a replica of the mall's original mid-century-modern sign and a new parking lot. Varco, Origo's investment arm, is now the sole owner. Gonzalez said the mall was nearly empty when the group took it on. Space is still being leased.

Legacy tenants Chicken Run, Dollar General and SpinXpress Laundry stayed through construction. New tenants include Nikori, a sushi restaurant that started in Matamoros. Palm Village is Nikori's first U.S. location. Doña Maria Gorditas is also leasing space, and Crepe Town moved to the center from its former location in the old Brownsville Museum of Fine Art.
