Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's lead over Democrat Gina Hinojosa in the governor's race has narrowed, according to a new poll. The survey of 2,000 likely Texas voters was conducted by the Barbara Jordan Public Policy Research and Survey Center at Texas Southern University from Oct. 21 to 25. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.19 percentage points.
In the poll, half of respondents said they would vote for Abbott, who is seeking a fourth term as governor. Hinojosa received 47%, and 1% of those surveyed said they were unsure. Abbott had a favorable rating from 48% of respondents, and Hinojosa was viewed favorably by 45%. Independents broke for Hinojosa by 11 points.
The poll found most White voters supported Abbott, while most Latino and Black voters backed Hinojosa. Men preferred Abbott, and women supported Hinojosa. Hinojosa led among younger voters, and Abbott had a substantial lead with older voters. Early voting in Texas ends Friday, and Election Day polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
