Harris County is asking a judge to order a one-year closure of Life at Jackson Square apartments or to appoint a receiver to take control of the property, according to County Attorney Abbie Kamin. Her office is intervening in the City of Houston's existing lawsuit over the complex on behalf of the county and the State of Texas.

The property is at 5410 N. Braeswood Boulevard in the Meyerland area of southwest Houston. The county's petition says it has more than 1,300 apartments on about 39 acres and has also operated under the names Nob Hill and Meyerland on Braeswood.

The petition alleges the owners and operators have not taken reasonable steps to address recurring crime and unsafe conditions. It cites inoperable vehicle gates, unlocked pedestrian gates, inadequate lighting, unsecured vacant apartments, and municipal violations involving sewage, trash, pest control and exposed wiring. It lists 16 incidents from May 2023 to September 2026 involving firearms, assaults, robberies, arson and narcotics. It also references a city filing with more than 800 police calls for service. The petition notes that calls for service do not necessarily establish that a crime occurred.

Kamin said the county wants the property cleaned up, with real security, lighting, cameras and an end to criminal activity.
