The Associated Press has projected Republican Nathaniel Moran as the winner of the race for Texas' First Congressional District in the U.S. House. Moran is the incumbent. His challenger is Democrat Yolanda R. Prince.
As of 9 p.m., 39.41% of votes had been counted, according to the Texas Tribune. Moran had received 75,830 votes, or 68.5%. Prince had 34,950 votes, or 31.5%.
Moran spent Tuesday night in Tyler at Rick's on the Square, where the Smith County Republican Party held a watch party. The district covers 17 counties in East Texas, including Smith, Gregg and Harrison, and serves nearly 767,000 residents. Congressional maps were redrawn in 2025.
Moran, who was formerly the Smith County judge, was first elected to Congress in November 2022 and began his first term in January 2023. He grew up in Whitehouse and said he understands East Texas values. His website says his values are conservative and his goal is to protect faith, family and freedom.
