Lubbock-area forecasters expect a chilly Friday morning after clear skies and light winds overnight. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 30s on the caprock and the 40s off the caprock. Highs Friday are expected to run about 5 to 10 degrees below average. Friday is forecast to be dry, which the forecast says is good news for high school football games Friday evening, and it advises a light jacket and maybe a blanket for the bleachers.
A weather system passing to the south will bring a chance of light, steady rain to the southern South Plains and southern Rolling Plains on Saturday. The forecast gives Lubbock itself about a 20 percent chance of measurable rain, rising to as much as 40 percent over the southern KCBD/FOX34 area. Any rain in the Lubbock area is expected to be light, up to about a tenth of an inch, and should taper off by mid-evening.
The forecast says dry weather returns after Saturday for the first half of next week. Temperatures are expected to warm back toward seasonal levels, with light winds and mostly sunny skies.
