The Graham Steers won the Division II 7-on-7 football state championship, their fourth in the event sponsored by "Dave Campbell's Texas Football." The Steers beat Van Alstyne 32-21 on June 26 at Veterans Park & Athletic Complex in College Station. Celina is the only other program to win four titles in the event, the story said.
Graham also won the Division II title in 2013, 2014 and 2017. The Steers went 8-0 in this year's tournament, according to the report. In the semifinals, they beat LaMarque 19-12.
Head coach Clay McChristian said the defense played well. "We gave up 11 points a game," he said. "So many talk about offense in 7-on-7, but we played some great defense."
McChristian said 7-on-7 is one of several off-season activities for the team. The Steers also took fourth in Class 4A at the state Lineman Challenge, he said.
