Domestic violence homicides in Tarrant County increased for the second year in a row, according to a report released earlier this month. The review counted 13 people who died in 2025 from intimate partner violence. That is two more than in 2024 and more than double the number reported in 2023.
Kathryn Jacob, president and CEO of The Archway, a partner organization in the review, called the findings the "elephant in the room." She said the community's goal is 12 months with zero intimate partner homicides and that the community is moving away from that goal. Jacob said responsibility for the increase rests with domestic violence offenders.
The Tarrant County Intimate Partner Violence Adult Fatality Review Team includes nonprofits, police departments and the Tarrant County district attorney's office. The team publishes the review each October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the county, the review aims to identify gaps in system responses and improve coordination among agencies. Assistant district attorney Allenna Bangs said the team also creates more open connections among domestic violence prevention leaders. The Archway operates a 24-hour hotline at 1-877-701-7233.
