A Lamar County jury on Monday convicted Anthony Dorsett Smith, 46, of two counts of family violence assault by strangulation with a previous conviction. The verdict followed a full day of evidence and deliberations, according to First Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Kaminar.
Kaminar said Smith held his girlfriend captive in motel rooms in Sherman and Paris for months. Her family reported their concern to the Paris Police Department, he said.
Kaminar said Paris police Officer Jacob McCraw found the pair at the King's Inn and separated them for a welfare check. He said the woman then told McCraw about daily violence by Smith.
