Members of the Potter County Republican Party have filed a federal lawsuit against the county's elections administrator. They want a judge to require hand counting of every paper ballot before election results are finalized, and they want the rule to apply to all 254 Texas counties. The lawsuit alleges that electronic voting machines could be manipulated.

San Antonio voting rights attorney Joaquin Gonzalez said the outcome is unlikely. He said the plaintiffs did not allege that any Texas voting machine has miscounted votes in the past, and that they only speculate it could happen in the future. Gonzalez also said Potter County officials have 21 days to respond to the lawsuit before a judge can rule.

Chris McGinn, president of the Texas Association of County Election Officials, said in a statement that the allegations are baseless. Potter County GOP chair Daniel Rogers did not respond to requests for comment. Jared Woodfill, one of the lawyers representing Rogers, also did not respond.
