Former Texas state Sen. Kel Seliger endorsed James Talarico for U.S. Senate at a campaign stop in Amarillo on Tuesday. Seliger, a former Amarillo mayor who served nearly 16 years in the Texas Senate as a Republican, spoke before Talarico and another legislative candidate took the stage.

Seliger said Republican attacks on Talarico are untrue. He also criticized President Donald Trump. "What [Talarico] believes is the people who are elected to Washington are going there to represent us, every single one of us," Seliger said. He added that those officials are not going to Washington to represent the president's wishes.

Seliger's endorsement follows earlier moves toward Democrats and Democratic causes, according to the report. In 2022, he signed a sworn declaration in a federal lawsuit claiming that Republican redistricting efforts violated the Voting Rights Act. During his 2018 re-election bid, he drew criticism for "liking" a tweet that said Trump had a "dangerous unfitness" for the presidency. He removed the like after The Pioneer published an article about his social media activity, and he said he had clicked it by accident.
