A pedestrian died early Sunday after being hit by a vehicle at Wellborn Road and Holleman Drive in College Station, police said. Officers responded to the crash around 4:45 a.m. and gave aid until College Station Fire Department crews arrived. The pedestrian died at the scene.

Police identified the pedestrian as Elijah Taylor of College Station and said his next of kin have been notified. According to the College Station Police Department, a preliminary investigation found the driver was heading south through the Holleman Drive intersection on a green light. Police said Taylor appeared to have disregarded a "Do Not Walk" signal when he was struck.

Officers began a DWI investigation and determined there was enough evidence to arrest the driver on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The investigation is ongoing, and police said no further information will be released at this time. Police said the crash is a reminder of the dangers of drunk driving and urged people to plan a safe ride after drinking alcohol.
