The Mighty Vandal Band finished fourth in the state at the UIL State Military Marching Band Competition on Oct. 27 in Waco. The school said it is the best state finish in the program's history.
Band Director Nick Moore, a 2006 Vandal graduate, said the band has spent more than 400 hours preparing for the season since July. He said 94 members performed at the competition, including 16 seniors. Moore has been part of the program for 10 years, including the last four as band director.
Asked to describe the 2026 band, Moore said the students were hard working. He said they performed through the Texas heat without complaint. The school said it is proud of the students, directors and others who helped with the season.
